LET online workshop ‘Metropolitan biodiversity: functional biodiversity?’

The workshop will take place on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 9:00 am.

As a result of their location between cities and the rest of the territory, metropolitan areas often have a particular biodiversity, made up of a very diverse mix of organisms and habitats of conservation interest. This has meant that they have traditionally been little studied in biological terms. However, the growing consideration of biodiversity as a provider of ecosystem functions and services has placed these organisms and habitats at the center of green infrastructure planning and design policies, which should ensure these functions and services to numerous metropolitan citizens. This trend, however, is hampered by the lack of available information on the value, conservation status and, especially, the functioning of this biodiversity, and on the associated provision of services and de-services. This workshop aims to advance the knowledge of this topic through presentations focused on various aspects of the operation and management of metropolitan natural organisms and systems, and a round table shared with various experts from the fields of research and administration.
